Research for Feral Swine RESOLUTION:
The National Institute for Animal Agriculture (NIAA) should communicate to
APHIS, as well as ARS, National Pork Producers Council, and the National
Pork Board, the continuing need for field studies and research to cope
with infections in feral pig populations. Approved:

Goals
for States in Program Stages POSITION:
The Livestock Conservation Institute recommended in 1989 the following
goals for pseudorabies eradication to the appropriate committees of the
National Pork Producers Council, the United States Animal Health
Association and the American Association of Swine Veterinarians. In order
to ensure the successful completion of the national pseudorabies
eradication program, the National Institute for Animal Agriculture
continues to urge accelerated progress within state programs to move to a
higher status so as to regain the momentum projected in the timetable
below:

Reviews for States with Feral Swine Populations BACKGROUND:
The National Plan for PRV Post-Eradication identifies the relationship
between Feral/Wild/Captive swine and the commercial swine herd as an issue
where there must be assurance of minimal transmission risk to enable
declaring the U.S. free of PRV.
The National PRV Control Board requires each state in its
application for PRV status to detail their program to address the risk to
the commercial swine herd from feral swine. RESOLUTION:
The National Institute for Animal Agriculture (NIAA) calls on USDA, APHIS,
Veterinary Services to establish regular team reviews of the states’
activities and measures in place designed to prevent feral swine from
affecting the PRV status of the states’ commercial swine herds and
suggests the use of the Feral Framework Document approved at the 2003 NIAA
Annual Meeting. Such teams must include representatives of the following:
Federal, State, Industry (pork producers). Approved:
