Animal
Care Committee Report There were four
presentations and eighteen participants.
Keith Carlson outlined the Dairy Quality Assurance Program.
The comprehensive program covers all aspects of dairy cattle and
calf welfare. Daren Brown,
Quality Assurance Manager of Wendy’s International presented their
animal welfare audit program. They
audit all of their meat suppliers and on-farm audits as being done for
chickens and layers. Paul
Sundberg, National Pork Board, presented the SWAP program for pig welfare.
This system uses objective scoring of swine welfare.
Temple Grandin, Grandin Livestock Handling Systems, Inc. presented
results of the 2002 restaurant audits.
Plants that have been in a restaurant auditing system for several
years, are getting excellent scores on the American Institute scoring
system. The problem area in
new plans who entered the auditing system in 2002.
They did not know what to expect. A new resolution was added in support of the implementation of auditable market guidelines, and the resolutions in tail docking was deleted. In attendance: NIAA Members
