Emerging Disease Committee
2005 Mid-Year Report

Since the last Emerging Diseases committee meeting, the chair met with NIAA leadership via a conference call.  Resolution updates and progress were discussed during that call. 

A mid-year committee meeting was called in conjunction with the AAVLD/USAHA annual meeting.   Only three members of the committee gathered.   Michele Vise-Brown attended and briefly Glenn Slack.  The group discussed potential topics for the upcoming annual meeting of the NIAA. 

It appears the most urgent emerging disease at this time is Avian Influenza. The group assumes that NIAA leadership will probably hold a special symposium on that topic, and therefore focused on other emerging disease issues.  The committee chair will share ideas for the annual committee meeting with the Emerging Disease committee at large via email and gather input and additional ideas.
