Equine ID Subcommittee of the Animal Identification &
Information Systems
2005 Mid-Year Report
The Equine ID subcommittee met during the annual
conference in April 2005. The business session discussion was around
topics where the industry needs to focus direction, which includes:
-
Standards – (performance)
-
What type methods of ID we recommend
-
Movement
-
Application – how will veterinarians, producers, owners and/or
others apply the recommended method(s) of ID in the industry?
As a first step, the
subcommittee submits the following recommendation for consideration:
-
The NIAA Equine ID subcommittee meets quarterly and in conjunction
with the NAIS Equine Species Working Group (ESWG) as an effort to
move forward with overall goals / objectives.
-
The resolution presented the NIAA Equine ID Subcommittee in April
2005, and passed by the Animal ID and Info Systems committee, was
instrumental in the ESWG formulating and creating a similar
recommendation for their more in depth series of recommendation on
equine ID as they relate to the NAIS.
-
No revisions or additional resolutions are proposed at this time
however they may surface by April 2006.
-
During the 2005 NIAA ID / Info Expo, the subcommittee and ESWG were
encouraged to get behind premises and animal ID. To put the
suggestion into action, the NIAA Equine ID Subcommittee and ESWG
Committee on Horse ID and Technology will work together to address
the issue of standards related to performance and applications.
-
It is anticipated that an update on this subject along with any
findings be presented in April 2006. In addition, six speakers who
were unable to participate in the Equine Session during the ID/Info
Expo due to Katrina and Rita will be again invited to present during
that annual meeting.
