NIAA Poultry Health Committee-2003 Committee Report

Poultry Health Committee Report
April 9, 2003

There were 11 people in attendance

Dr. Robert Norton was the first presenter.  His presentation on Security in poultry Operations was well received and would be a topic for the General Session next year.

Dr. Ty Vannieuwenhoven did both his and Dr. Breitmeyer's presentation on END.  There were several good discussions following these presentations.

Dr. Michael David gave and excellent presentation on OIE Plan for Avian Influenza.  This is a preliminary plan but does consider any H5 or H7 outbreaks regardless of pathogenicity as reportable.  Compartmentalization was a new term introduced on handling an outbreak on a farm that had positive and negative flocks on it.

Dr. Richard Slemons could not make the meeting.

The business meeting was short.  Two recommendations to the Board:

  • Appoint a Chair and Vice Chair

  • Get the Poultry Industry at this Meeting.
