NIAA Poultry Health Committee-2004 Committee Report

NIAA Poultry Health Committee Meeting

April 7, 2004

 

 

The NIAA Poultry Health Committee meeting was moderated by Dr. Richard Breitmeyer as there is not yet permanent leadership assigned for this committee.  Approximately 12 members attended the meeting. 

 

Presentations included:

 

“Lessons Learned from the 2002-03 Exotic Newcastle Disease Outbreak in the Western U.S.” – Dr. Richard Breitmeyer, California Department of Food and Agriculture

 

“Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza in Texas” – Dr. Max Coats, Texas Animal Health Commission

 

“Low Path Avian Influenza and the Live Bird Marketing System – Dr. T.J. Myers, USDA, APHIS, Veterinary Services

 

“Poultry and the U.S. Animal Identification Plan” – Dr. John Wiemers, USDA, APHIS, Veterinary Services

 

There was excellent discussion following each presentation.

 

No resolutions were brought forward. 

 

Both the Chair and Vice Chair for this committee need to be appointed.
