NIAA Youth Programs Committee -- 2005 Mid-Year CommitteeReport

Youth Programs
Mid-Year Committee Report

As noted in the report, because of the new duties I have taken over as 4-H Director for Colorado, I am handing over the chairmanship of this committee to Jan Busboom and Willard Lemaster. They have some ideas that I believe will invigorate this committee. If there is any formality that I need to take care of to transfer the leadership of this committee just let me know. Please send future communications to Jan and Willard regarding the youth programs committee.

I plan to continue my (CSU) membership with NIAA and will participate in annual meetings then I am able to do so. It is hard to believe that it has been 10 years since LCI sponsored the first youth livestock ethics symposium in Las Vegas. At the time I knew maybe 10 % of the participants at that conference. Since that time, when I now look back at the attendance list of the 1995 symposium I probably now know and work with over 90% of the people on that attendance list. LCI--now NIAA-- has been the most supportive animal agriculture organization in this country of the work I've been involved with over the last 13 years and I greatly appreciate it.

I understand that the NIAA board of directors has some concern about the future of the youth programs committee, but I'd ask that they give the committee another year or two to see what the leadership of Jan and Willard can bring.

Thanks for the support.
