USAIP Steering Committee Receives NIAA Chairman’s Award
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Members of the National Animal Identification Development Team (also known as USAIP) Steering Committee were collectively recognized during the 2004 National Institute for Animal Agriculture’s (NIAA) Annual Recognition Banquet, held recently in Salt Lake City, Utah. The committee received the Chairman’s Award, recognizing the Volunteer(s) of the Year.
NIAA outgoing Chairman of the Board Kenneth E. Olson said that while the award traditionally goes to an individual, the extraordinary work performed during the past year by the USAIP Steering Committee towards the establishment of a national animal identification system in the United States could not go unrecognized.
“As we looked at making our selection, we decided to do something a bit different than what had been done in the past,” said Olson.
Members of the steering committee are R. Scott Stuart, Dr. Cindy Wolf, Dr. John Wiemers, Neil Hammerschmidt, Dr. Mark Engle, Dr. Robert Fourdraine, Dr. Bob Hillman, Dr. Clarence Siroky, John Adams, Dr. Valerie Ragan, Gary Wilson, Dr. Taylor Woods and Linda Campbell.
“The members of the steering committee have put in countless volunteer hours, meeting almost weekly via conference call in addition to committee activities and face-to-face meetings,” said Olson. “The USAIP is not a NIAA program, but it is one that we are pleased to have had a role in developing.”
The National Institute for Animal Agriculture provides a forum for consensus-building and advancing solutions for animal agriculture and provides continuing education and communication linkages to animal agriculture professionals.
