Caspers Chosen Chairman-elect; New Board Members Named

Louisville, KY— Jon D. Caspers, a swine producer from Iowa representing the National Pork Producers Council, was chosen to be the Chairman-elect of the Board of
Directors here today at the annual meeting of the National Institute for Animal Agriculture (NIAA.)

Caspers will become Chairman in two years, when the current Board Chairman R. Scott Stuart, National Livestock Producers Association, finishes his term.   Caspers has most recently served as the NIAA Treasurer.  

In other NIAA Board of Directors moves, five new Directors were elected to three-year terms. They are:

The six new Directors are: 

  • Dr. Mark J. Engle, PIC USA, Inc.
  • Dr. John W. Hunt, Arizona Department of Agriculture
  • Mr. Kevin Kirk, Michigan Department of Agriculture
  • Dr. Mark F. Spire, Schering-Plough Animal Health
  • Dr. Peter J. Timoney, University of Kentucky

Dr. Annette M. Whiteford, California Department of Food and Agriculture, was elected to fill the vacancy created by the elevation of Caspers to Chairman-elect.    

In welcoming the newly elected Directors, R. Scott Stuart, said, “These six leaders bring diverse and impressive credentials to our Board and will contribute greatly the future success of NIAA.  I look forward to working closely with each of them.”   Chairman Stuart is with the National Livestock Producers Association.   

NIAA’s mission is to provide a forum for building consensus and advancing solutions for animal agriculture and to provide continuing education and communications linkages for animal agriculture professionals. The Association is dedicated to programs which eradicate animal diseases, to promote safe and wholesome food at home and abroad, and to encourage best practices in environmental stewardship, animal health and well being.  Its members include producers, veterinarians, scientists, state and federal officials, and business executives.
