2006 Annual Meeting Will Include Special Event at Churchill Downs

Bowling Green, KY—Annual meetings of the National Institute for Animal Agriculture (NIAA) often make history with one prominent speaker or another making an important announcement on the latest in animal agriculture, but the 2006 event scheduled for Louisville on April 3-6, will offer attendees a once-in-a lifetime opportunity—the chance for a private tour of the world famous Churchill Downs, just a month in advance of this year’s Kentucky Derby.

The Kentucky Host Committee has arranged for every one attending the annual meeting to be shuttled to the famous track for cocktails and hors d’eurves at the Kentucky Derby Museum, a showing of a short film on the Derby as well as the chance to see other parts of the facility.

“We think this should be an interesting and fun evening for everyone,” said Dr. Robert Stout with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture, and chair of the host committee.  “And, we look forward to showing them one of our state’s most interesting spots. We think it should be quite a thrill to see those famous twin spires ‘up close and personal’ as they say on TV.”

Other opening day features include the General Session, which will explore animal health and veterinary services globally.  Keynote speakers will address topics of Managing Global Animal Disease Risks Through Capacity Building, Regionalization and Compartmentalization.

The theme of Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning will run throughout the entire meeting, including a final symposium which will center on a hypothetical outbreak of foot and mouth disease in the U.S. The daylong event will feature some of the world’s leading experts on the disease as well as on disaster planning and management. The meeting will be held at Galt House Hotel & Suites.

In addition, there will be multiple seminars hosted by NIAA’s 12 species-based and issue-based committees addressing other important issues throughout the meeting.
