Report: U.S. Animal Protein Needs Trade Negotiators Back at the Table – A report from CoBank shows animal agriculture needs trade negotiators at the table to build export markets, which has almost tripled in the past two decades.
Beef Outlook: A record-high number of cattle are in feedlots as the national beef herd shrinks – 2021 marks the third consecutive year with a declining beef cow herd and a smaller calf crop. Yet cattle slaughter and beef production are both on pace to top 2018 levels. It is not sustainable for cattle slaughter to continue to defy a shrinking national herd in the long run.
First plant-based hard-boiled eggs – The word’s first plant-based hard-boiled eggs have been launched in Switzerland. “V Loved The Boiled” is made with soy protein. A pack of four of these alternative eggs costs $4.83.
Identifying fertile eggs through MRIs – The Orbem technology contains an MRI camera that can identify internal and external features of each egg without touching them at a 98% accuracy rate. The March 2022 prototype should scan 9,000 eggs per hour.

USDA awards $20.2 million in dairy innovation grants – USDA’s Dairy Business Innovation (DBI) Initiatives awarded $18.4 million to three initiatives at University of Tennessee, Vermont Agency for Food and Marketing and University of Wisconsin, and $1.8 million to the California State University at Fresno.

The Florida Aquaculture Review Council — Call for Statements of Interest
The Florida Aquaculture Review Council, an advisory council to the Commissioner of Agriculture, is pleased to announce a Call for Statements of Interest to perform applied aquaculture research and economic development projects during Florida Fiscal Year 2023-24. Applicants must submit their complete Statement of Interest to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Division of Aquaculture no later than 5 p.m. EST on December 10, 2021.
